Our dependance on drinkable water and fresh air is universal to our survival. In coal towns, these basic resources are polluted: coal mining releases harmful toxins into the water, air and land, causing residents chronic and deadly health issues. This means that there are citizens in the United States - a first world nation - who are not having their basic human needs met. This is unconstitutional.
We beg the government to REQUIRE coal towns do extensive and regular environmental testing, communicate openly with residents about risks in their environment, and finally: make mining companies financially responsible for the mess they created.
This is YOUR environment, and when a mining company selfishly destroys it, they must be held accountable.
That is justice.
