provide student loan forgiveness to prisoners who are trying to start over after long prison terms.

Created by R.A. on December 13, 2013

provide student loan forgiveness to prisoners who are trying to start over after long prison terms. Many people who have been in prison find starting over difficult, and the added burden of finding out the Dept. of Ed is pursuing collection attempts on the defaulted student loan from (10, 15, 20) year ago with interest of up to three times the original balance is quite disruptive to an already fragile budget. My student loan was consolidated and current at the time of my incarceration. 18 years later the Dept of Ed informs me my $7,000 loan now has $13,000 interest and a $5,000 collection fee on top of that. There ought to be a law to prevent this kind of forced poverty.
