Officials in Prescott, Arizona, have denied survivor benefits to the families of 13 firefighters killed in the horrific and costly Yarnell, Arizona fire, which was the deadliest American wildfire in the past 80 years. Those benefits include salary and a health plan. Surviving families of wildfire firefighters should receive these benefits regardless whether they are full-time, part-time or seasonal. Congressional action should be taken to alter the law so this cannot happen now or ever again.
