We believe that this petition system is a great tool for creating transparency, visibility, and direct communication from the citizens of this country to its leadership. However, while the tool allows for assurances that communication of ideas (and their magnitude) can flow in one direction (upward), there are no such assurances that communication flows in the other (downward). This petition seeks the accountability of leadership to provide some form of communication that a petition is being considered and when (generally) a response is to be expected. Continuing the current course of responding 'at will' will propagate the perception that this forum can be used as PR and that only 'selected' petitions warrant leadership commentary.
