Provide working women paid maternity leave and stop being the only developed nation in the world that does not.

Created by U.C. on February 10, 2015

Out of 185 countries, the United States is one of just three that doesn’t guarantee paid maternity leave, the others being Oman and Papua New Guinea. Over half of the countries that provide leave give at least 14 weeks off.
The FMLA law only protects a mother from loosing her job, in addition if she is put on bed rest due to pregnancy complications this leave will eat into her maternity leave. It's a shame that one if the most powerful countries in the world does not take care of its new mothers.
This has so many ripple effects, economic issues that families, breast feeding that may not be possible upon return resulting in lost opportunity for babies to get the ideal food. Long term health for both mother and baby is affected. The us needs to take care of new moms and its future citizen
