More people were killed in the United States in recent years using hammers and clubs than with rifles commonly referred to as “assault weapons”. Acknowledge that in 2010, ALL rifles together, of which “assault weapons” are only a subset, accounted for only 358 deaths, while in the same year, “Hands, Fists and Feet” accounted for 745 deaths. And finally, acknowledge that enacting a ban on “assault weapons”, were that to happen, would mean taking away the freedom to choose that type of firearm for sport, self defense, or recreation, from over 300 million Americans, in spite of the fact that the overwhelming majority of people never have, and never will, use one of these firearms in an illegal manner!
