I expect many folks won't give this petition a second glance. That's fine. For those of those of you who do... You have my respect and appreciation.
The Battle Flag of the Confederacy is one of the most controversial icons in American History. It hails from a time when our nation went to war with itself over fundamental disagreements. There were patriots on both sides, men willing to fight and die for the chance to create a new nation or restore an older one.
Some of these patriots carried the flag we so proudly display everywhere, while others carried a flag which is still struggling to be accepted. There will always be fools ready to misuse and misrepresent anything held sacred, but we don't have to let them define what our symbols mean.
