The 2nd Amendment is broken. As currently interpreted, it no longer serves the interest of the American people. Further, conversations within the framework of the 2nd Amendment, while well-intentioned, are incapable of solving our problems. A cure to America's disease of gun violence is only possible if the Constitution itself is operated on.
A Nobel Peace Prize laureate and popularly-elected President, himself proof of the triumph of human rights over past Constitutional errors, is the ideal person to begin a substantive public discourse that will lead, one day, to amending and healing our Constitution.
Mr. President, we ask you to start the conversation on fixing our broken 2nd Amendment and saving the lives of tens of thousands of Americans.
