Publicly broadcast the criminal justice process as a deterrent to crime.

Created by R.R. on March 13, 2013

One of the primary goals of the criminal justice system is deterrence, a goal our criminal justice system fails miserably at.

What is the deterrent value of a punishment not seen?

Crime is a public wrong, causing harm to the population. I purpose that the entire criminal justice process be broadcast on public access television. This is to include trial, sentencing, parole hearings, and executions. The most serious offenses would be given priority.

I believe that the public broadcast of the criminal justice system will create the proper general deterrence that is necessary to reduce crime. It will be an example to the youth of the country that there is a real consequence to their actions and the public will see it.
