Publicly condemn the death sentence handed down by the Sudanese government against Mariam Ibrahim for being a Christian.

In Sudan on May 15, 2014, Mariam Yahya Ibrahim Ishag was sentenced to death by hanging for supposed apostasy. Mariam was accused of leaving her Muslim faith and converting to Christianity, although she was raised as a Christian. She is eight and a half months pregnant and has another young child who is forced to live in prison with her because the Sudanese government will not allow her husband to care for him. Mariam's husband also relies heavily on her due to his physical disabilities.
Charging a person with death because of her religion is unconscionable and should be, at the very least, publicly denounced by the government of the United States. If our nation claims to support human rights and religious freedom, our government cannot remain silent on this issue.
