We call on the United States Government; in its self-proclaimed role as the world's leading defender of democracy, free speech and human rights; to publicly condemn the Government of Turkey, and Prime Minister Erdogan in particular, for undermining democracy in Turkey and for dragging the country on a path of corruption, lawlessness, discrimination and civil conflict.
Whilst geopolitical and financial interests sometimes conflict with human rights considerations, this is a case where they meet. A stable and democratic Turkey, at peace with itself and with its neighbours, is in the United States' best interests.
