Putin’s Russia has engaged in a war against homosexuals that is an affront to human decency. The result is massive anti-gay violence and is reminiscent of the treatment of Jews in the early days of Nazi Germany. Americans have a duty to stand up to these horrors. We must support our persecuted brothers and sisters. We must ensure that the world will not tolerate the persecution of any minority.
Mr. President, we call on you as the representative of the United States, as the leader of the free world, and as the face of Democracy to stand up to this egregious violation of the human rights we hold most sacred. We call on you to speak out against Russia’s homophobia, and bring the power of the United Nations to sanction their hatred.
