While the US is actively addressing issues regarding climate change by reducing its carbon footprint from coal, our closest and friendliest neighbor is continuing to go in the complete opposite direction by increasing its emissions and expanding the tar sands.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently approved the Northern Gateway pipeline, another pipeline similar to Keystone XL that will transport bitumen. This pipeline however runs from Alberta to Canada's west coast, an area still actively prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. Two mountain ranges and a treacherous route for oil tanker ships also create further risks with this pipeline.
Canada has muzzled its scientists and refuses to acknowledge climate change. Obama needs to tell Canada to smarten up. Canadians are fed up too.
