The original intent for Congress was to have concerned citizens serve their country for a period, then return to their private lives. The current environment where all members come to DC and work to stay there, more and more separated from the everyday concerns of other citizens, is detrimental to the well being of the nation.
We feel it would be better for members of Congress to leave after a period of time to allow new members to come represent that district with fresh, current ideas from the citizens in their district.
We feel that a maximum of 18 years for Senators and 20 for Congressman allows them to achieve the depth of experience they say helps them to their job well, without becoming too rigid in their thinking.
