By any decency standard, there was flagrant dishonesty in the big banks. Yet no people were punished and the SEC fined banks a pittance.
Banks deliberately bundled worthless loans together, sold them at a profit as nearly risk-free investments to other banks across the globe, and profited again by betting they would fail.
Meanwhile, bank traders' emails show they laughed as they used expletives to describe the worthless securities. That's like a horse owner selling you a race horse with a bad heart without mentioning it, then going to the track to bet against your horse.
How can such behavior go virtually unpunished in our society? Madoff's put in jail. So should swindlers and their bosses when they create such havoc in the world. The SEC is far too lenient with these crooks and companies.
