America has long profited from the contributions of brilliant newcomers; we should not stop now.
Every year, thousands of graduating students and young professionals on both sides of the Atlantic are shut out of their host countries' job markets because of draconian visa requirements. These young Americans and Europeans present negligible risk of dependence on allied state resources and offer unlimited potential to be tapped.
We entreat the Administration to immediately pursue an agreement with the European Union to rescind work permit requirements for individuals with mutually-recognized advanced degrees in the interest of a completely open market for skilled labor. This is a gain that we can make before the next Presidential election, and one that should have been made before now.
