pursue the overturn of the so-called Hughes amendment of the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act.

Created by M.S. on June 27, 2013

The Hughes amendment to the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) prohibited the manufacture or import of automatic firearms for citizens. The Hughes amendment violates the constitution and offers no benefit. Automatic firearms have been very heavily regulated by the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA). Since the NRA was enacted in 1934 only two of the hundreds of thousands of legally owned machine guns in the USA have been used in crimes and one of these was by a law enforcement officer (who would still be able to get a automatic firearm after the enactment of the Hughes Amendment). The Hughes amendment violates the constituton and leaves automatic firearms available to the government and an elite few. Demand that president Obama pursue the overturn this amendment.
