The US healthcare system currently has over 50 million uninsured individuals. On balance, the US has higher infant mortality and lower life expectancy than most other first world nations. Despite these poorer outcomes, the cost of healthcare per capita is almost twice that of a countries like Canada, Sweden and the UK. It is clear that the current system is not functioning as it needs to. Tax payer funded healthcare systems have been proven to provide better medical outcomes and higher efficiencies and by their very nature covers all of it's citizens. We believe a single payer system will seriously drive the cost of healthcare down and will allow people the freedom to pursue employment interests without fear of becoming uninsured which will increase the competitiveness of the US.
