Push for a 21st century Equal Rights Amendment

Created by H.Z. on September 24, 2011

In the 1970's, the original ERA came tantalizingly close to being ratified by the states, receiving 35 out of the 38 states needed. We believe in the year 2001, it is beyond ludicrous that equal rights between men and women are not specifically guaranteed in our supreme law of the land.

Despite being listed under women's issues, this is a societal issue that comes down to both genders. Men as well as women face their own legal and cultural handicaps that we as a nation should be doing more to overcome.

As a nation that is supposed to value all people equally, as well as trying to lead the world in showing the benefits to other peoples of a free and equal society, let us enshrine our values in the highest law.
