Modern media, campaign financing, and election rules have changed so much since our founding, that US Presidents are forced to become professional fundraisers, rather than professional leaders. With only 4-years between elections, first-term Presidents must waste time campaigning and are often unable to push policies that are deemed too dangerous to re-election. Re-election should not be a concern. If re-election were not a constant burden, a President could be more earnest and aspirational.
This non-partisan petition asks the White House to begin pushing for legislation on a Constitutional Amendment that would define a single, 6-year Presidential term, allowing Presidents to "swing for the fences" in terms of policies, while reducing the tremendous cost and burden of national elections
