Push Congress to enact a law so that when a public official/candidate misrepresents facts or lies he/she faces a fine

The media spends an inordinate amount of time debunking misrepresentations made by candidates and elected officials, to the detriment of our country. Using a nonpartisan source such as Politifact anytime an elected official or candidate issues a statement deemed a "lie" category or worse they are to have a reasonable fine, such as $100.

This is to create an incentive for officials to become more informed about issues and ensure that when they speak they are not merely spreading rhetoric but instead add to the public debate. Both parties are guilty of this
