Modern mathematics have come up with four fairness criteria for the analysis of a given voting method: Majority, Condorcet, Monotonicity, Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives.
Majority: the person with the majority of votes should win an election.
Condorcet: the person that wins the most one-to-one comparisons should win.
Monotonicity: getting more votes shouldn't harm a person's chances of winning.
Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives: A non-winning choice shouldn't change the winner of an election.
