push for Congressional salaries to be cut.

Created by D.K. on November 26, 2011

In this time of economic downturn, when average Americans face extreme financial difficulty, we, the undersigned, believe that the Members of Congress should reduce the burden on taxpayers by accepting an appropriate cut in their salaries. The average American income, including top earners, is $67,530 a year, with 68.2% of Americans (approx. 80,941,124 people) earning less than $75,000 per year. (U.S. Census Bureau). The annual salary for Senators and Representatives is $174,000, party leaders and President Pro Tem make $193,400, and the Speaker receives $223,500. We request ALL members of Congress receive a flat, $80,000/year salary plus expenses of travel to and from their representative district. We respectfully ask the President to use what influence he has to support this resolution.
