90 percent of high school students in the United States are sleep deprived. Many potential solutions have been thought of, such as shortening school days or limiting homework. We propose a new solution: giving students an extra period during the day in which to sleep. There have been many reported benefits of polyphasic sleep, an this could help students to combat sleep deprivation. The end of the school day may have to be pushed back for this period, but during those hours students will be more alert and able to do homework and extra curricular activities better because of the energy they gain from not being sleep deprived.
