push for fed legislation preventing states from stripping former felons of the right to vote, once released from prison.

Created by G.H. on July 15, 2013

Many states prevent former felons from voting, even after they have completed their prison sentences and paid their debt to society. This constitutes an unfair and continuing punishment that these people endure, and is a violation of their due process rights.

The federal government should enact legislation making the right to vote (at least in federal elections) a federal right that cannot be stripped from citizens who are not currently incarcerated.
