Have the Obama administration pursue language in future trade agreements that will prevent tobacco companies from leveraging those agreements for the purpose of impeding the implantation of effective public health protections.
Of particular importance is that the administration return to its strong commitment to ensure that nations are protected under the Trans-Pacific Partnership from litigation designed prevent them from ameliorating the health of their citizens. Thus the administration should reinstate its exception for tobacco products as a public health issue that can be regulated by states to safeguard their citizens.
