Push for a law that will prevent mass publicity for mass murderers.

Created by D.I. on June 19, 2015

As a nation, let us stop the practice of rewarding mass murderers with mass publicity. Publicity is a very enticing motive for some violent people to commit atrocities.

The level of coverage given by news media to certain great crimes appears to encourage unbalanced people, seeking a lasting fame, to copy these crimes — as we have seen indisputably happened in Joseph Wesbecker's 1989 homicidal rampage.

The pursuit of fame can lead people to acts of great courage and nobility. It can also lead to acts of great savagery.

Violent crime as entertainment serves no public interest. It is time that we as a civilized nation at least make an attempt to discourage these acts by giving no publicity to the criminal, while still reserving the right to report the crime.
