Push for legislation that will provide mentally ill people parity for long term disability as other disabled workers.

Created by C.J. on February 08, 2014

Long term disability for most working Americans lasts until retirement age at about 60% of their working income. If you're diagnosed with a mental illness and have to go on long term disability your long term disability, in most cases, lasts two years and then it is ended by the insurance company. Mental illness is still discriminated against by the insurance companies and employers. Mental illnesses are chemical imbalances in the brain, they are physical illnesses. When the brain is the sick part of the body it is very hard to function. It is only right that the insurance companies pay long term disability payments to patients with mental illness just the same as those with other illnesses. We are pushed into Social Security Disability when we should be getting Long Term Disability.
