If the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School taught us anything, it is that our children and their teachers are utterly defenseless to an armed attacker when they are at school. Designating schools as "gun free zones" only makes people who want to do mass harm more likely to target a large group that they know is not able to fight back. It's time to push for legislation that would allow law-abiding adults who legally possess a firearm to carry concealed while on school premises. Instead of "gun free zones", what we really need are "protected school zones".
