The IRS would prepare an estimated tax return for individuals based on information provided to them from employers and financial institutions. Individuals would check this return for errors or omissions and make any necessary changes before submitting their yearly taxes. This method of tax preparation would save filers many hours and costs of prep time. It would be free, totally voluntary, and in complete control of the individual filer. This idea was supported by President Obama when he was campaigning, and by President Ronald Reagan during his tenure. The time for tax reform is now.
