There are a lot of proposals for gun control measures in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings. Banning "assault style" weapons, reducing clip sizes, increased background checks on gun buyers, for example. All of these things sound effective but in reality will not do much to stem the tide of gun violence.
If gun businesses were subject to lawsuits from victim's families, they would find a way to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them. No government regulations necessary.
Currently the 2005 law called the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" gives immunity to gun manufacturers and dealers from liability lawsuits. We should repeal it and any similar laws, and let the ensuing lawsuits motivate the gun companies to find solutions for these problems.
