The Post Office today is in danger of being pushed out of the public sector, and sold into the private markets. With the mandate passed in 2006 the Post Office has to pre-fund 75 years worth of health care benefits, something no other agency federal or otherwise has been required to do.
It is absolutely important that the Post Office be required to plan and have funding available for retirement claims, however the amount being required of the Post Office far exceeds the demand of costs and pre-funding to this degree is threatening the Post Offices' ability to function as a public institution.
We understand the value that the Post Office provides as a national infrastructure that reaches almost every community in our nation, and do not want it sold to corporate interests.
