The current method of tax collection produces serious stress upon the entire American public, is vulnerable to cheating, and requires a massive bureaucracy.
It would be better to devise a national sales tax on consumer goods and services, with certain necessities untaxed to ease the burden on the poor.
This way, the IRS would only have to deal with shops, instead of 300 million citizens.
To keep the tax progressive, food items and medicines should remain untaxed, Certain consumer goods could have a base untaxed amount with tax applied only on the cost which goes above this amount (ie, shirts could have the first 5 dollars untaxed, so a cheap Target $5 shirt has no tax, and a 20 dollar shirt would be taxed on 15 dollars of that cost) to make this tax a bit more progressive.
