The procedural rules of the Senate were implemented with the intention of allowing free flow of debate without fear of being unjustifiably silenced. It was not intended to become a blunt weapon with which a single unidentifiable malcontent could terminate the life of a popular bill.
Abuse of the filibuster in its current incarnation has effectively ended the Congress' ability to address the pressing problems facing this nation. This has led to an increasing pessimism regarding the future of this country that only works to compound the difficulties we face.
This is a completely apolitical issue.
It is our wish that this administration take substantial steps to encourage the Senate to restore the procedural rules pertaining to the old-style filibuster.
