The president needs to push and actively campaign for serious action to combat climate change. 2012 was the hottest year on record in the lower 48 states according to NOAA. 2012 also marked the 36th consecutive year (since 1976) that the annual temperature was above the long-term average. The economic and human effects of climate change are being felt in the form of increased extreme weather. Hurricane Sandy and droughts in the midwest have had significant human and economic costs to our country. We need to take action. An idea that might work would be a carbon tax that would be put on producers of carbon and returned as tax rebates to the American citizens to lower their taxes.
