Cable companies have bucked the free market system for too long, charging for stations few consumers want and bundling them with the few extended-cable stations Americans do want. For example, recent statistics have revealed that almost half of our cable bill goes to sports programming alone, which some people are completely uninterested in. Most American households do buy cable and, at nearly a hundred dollars a month per household, stopping the corporation-driven regulatory ban on à la carte cable could be as big a stimulus as returning the payroll tax cut to the average American household.
