The US stands alone in many ways, but in no greater way than the failure to implement the metric system. The metric system is taught in all schools. Students are brought up to understand the metric system.
Often, the news reports say the US is behind in science and tech. It's no wonder when the US fails to adopt the standards that enable sciences. Furthermore, metric is conceptually easier to understand (base 10 instead of no-base).
In addition to the metric system, the government should adopt the ISO8601 date standard. OPM should use weeks starting with Monday, and dates should be properly formatted.
