The metric system makes more sense for units of measurement. While the use of the metric system in the United States has increased, the US customary system (inch, foot, mile, ...) still remains the dominant system. The metric system is used by the majority of the world for good reason. Just look at this simple comparison:
US customary system:
1 inch
1 foot = 12 inches
1 mile = 5280 feet = 63360 inches
Metric system:
1 centimeter
1 meter = 100 centimeters
1 kilometer = 1000 meters = 100000 centimeters
This also works equally well when talking about mass, time, and other units of measurement. Taking mass, for example, we have ounce, pound, ton, etc. In the metric system it's milligram, gram, kilogram, etc.
Overall, the metric system is easier, more logical, and not as confusing.
