Serving in Congress is already a great privilege and an honor.
However, the legislative system has become deeply corrupted by financial interests and lobbying.
Members of Congress enjoy large salaries and extensive benefits & perks while millions of Americans go without. Congress is out of touch.
Compensation for serving in Congress should consist of room & board, plus minimum wage for hours worked. The benefits package should be the minimum so that we can be sure people serving in Congress are there because they are ready to sacrifice and work for the American people.
This should also include imposing a 6 year term limit for all Congress members to get rid of career politicians.
