We petition our leaders, especially the President and the members of the Super Committee, to get our economy moving again by restoring certainty in the economy by making meaningful and smart cuts to spending while getting our debt under control.
The “third-rails” of politics—defense, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, which were once viewed as too dangerous to touch—can no longer be ignored. Our nation’s defense spending is nearing 20 percent of total government spending. Meanwhile, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security consumed 43 percent of all federal spending in 2010. With 10,000 Baby Boomers retiring each day, those commitments will only grow. We have to reform these programs to keep the promise to future generations.
We demand that this opportunity not be wasted.
