Due in part to recent shootings in our nation such as today's shooting in Connecticut, a law should be put in place making it mandatory for schools to not only have lock down drills for general emergencies but prepare students for the specific situation of the shooter being in their presence. Where applicable, the first reaction should be to run and/or hide but in the worst case scenario of the killer coming into a room and students face to face with the attacker, the students are unprepared as to what to do. Schools should be held responsible for the proper training involved in teaching our students to defend themselves with minimal causalities as a preventive measure against a tragedy as the many seen this year in Aurora, Oregon, Connecticut, Ohio and others.
