Congress is currently receiving unfair pay for the amount of work they perform, especially considering our economic difficulties. Congress should not be allowed to decide their own wage, nor should they get a cost of living increase when the rest of the country and those who are most in need suffer cuts to their wages and benefits. Increases in pay should be decided by popular vote. Congress should take a pay cut anytime they propose and vote to cut benefits to the U.S.'s most needy or in times of recession and depression. They should be paid per diem -- when they show up for work, they will get paid. And their pay should be held until they can agree to a budget.
