Put an end to hunger in the United States by stopping unnecessary food waste.

If we were to all stop wasting edible food, think about how many less fortunate people could be fed. Here in the United States our supermarkets and grocery stores waste 133 billion pounds of food per year. An estimated equivalent of $161.1 billion. There is an alarming increase in numbers of U.S. Families who can't afford to buy food. Most either go to food banks or without eating. We the people call on legislation to ban these supermarkets and grocery stores from throwing away all food approaching the best~before dates and make it available to local food banks, homeless shelters and charities for distribution to those in need. This legislation has successfully passed in France and are asking you to do the same. We recommend a penalty/fine of up to $5,000/monthly for those non compliant.
