What makes me the most proud to be an American is that although not everyone is on the same page still, we as a country got past civil rights and man vs. woman issues. This has never been as evident as when we elected our first African American President as well as having a woman as being an early favorite for next election. The most troubling part of being an American for me is that we are still very much a nation divided. The majority of the people are still either dedicated Republicans or dedicated Democrats. We need our Congress to act as a whole and not as two "parties" fighting each other. No matter if it garners you votes for reelection, the outcome of the decisions made in Congress need to be the best for We the People. If the best decision is made, then voters will reelect
