Every person who believes the Founding Fathers included the Second Amendment in order to preserve an individual’s right to own a gun should be put in prison for a term of no less than 6 months. Should Americans have blanket permission to own firearms? Plainly, that was not the intent of the 2nd Amendment, but I think we can all understand how the gun lobby can parse and twist its words to say basically that.
We’re a nation divided on gun rights. It is a discussion America needs to have. Who can buy guns? Who can own guns? What kinds of guns? So long as so many Americans use the dubious shield that is the 2nd Amendment, we will never have an adult conversation.
The solution? Anyone hiding behind that childish interpretation of the 2nd Amendment must serve half of one year in prison.
