Under his alter ego, Sgt. Slaughter, Remus exemplified true patriotism throughout the 80s and beyond both in and out of the ring. A real life Sgt. in the USMC during the Vietnam era, Remus served his country and Corp. honorably. After he was discharged from service, Remus began a wrestling career using different personas until he finally settled on one that would forever be his legacy. Though in its beginnings, Sgt. Slaughter was a hated performer, it wasn't until 1984 that his patriotism would shine when he fought The Iron Sheik, and become an equal to Hulk Hogan in popularity. Remus's Slaughter character would later become immortalized with Hasbro's best selling GI Joe action figure. His services both foreign and domestic must be recognized by granting him the Medal of Freedom.
