We have many opinions about ip varying from full to no support. We agree however that special protection for ip, especially on the Internet is harmful. The future of free speech is not in traditional media but on the Internet. It is the single most important tool for democracy.
Recently Congress almost passed SOPA and PIPA which would have damaged free speech online. Further, in an undemocratic process ACTA was negotiated in secret and pushed through by the executive branch.
The United States has coerced some countries into signing ACTA. Similarly, diplomatic cables have revealed an attempt to interfere with legal proceedings in Australia to set precedents similar to SOPA.
We want to take a new direction, being a leader in a freer world, starting with a public apology for these actions.
