The African American market is one of the most underserved when it comes to the number of films that are made to cater to their specific tastes. One reason is that there is an inherent disconnect between those who make decisions to "greenlight" films and the unique tastes of this market. Another reason is that Black filmmakers find it impossible to access capital to produce & distribute varied genre films. 10 to 15 years ago, this problem did not exist to this degree.
