The world seems to be in a rut and pessimistic.
I think it would be awesome after all the angst of 9/11, War on Terror, GFC, many, many natural disasters, etc to instil a positive thought on everyone in the world to put someone (say a man and a woman) on the moon as a symbol of what the people of Earth can achieve when it puts its mind to it.
People will argue it's better to, say, spend the money feeding the starving, etc so this could possibly be largely funded by private and corporate sponsorship. What would Pepsi, KFC & Maccas pay to get a sign on the moon that could be read with a telescope for example lol.
