The US Coast Guard right now, is the last line of defense who is made to do more with less and with aging cutters, ships and Aircraft. It is one of the military services that have equipment that is older than most people in the US Coast Guard. What the Obama Administration should do is get more funding for the US Coast Guard and Fund for more cutters, ships and Aircraft. At the same time, put the US Coast Guard on the same funding level as with the US Navy, so they can get more cutters, ships and Aircraft.
